ABOUT US

The Oklahoma Trailblazers Ski Club was founded in 1989 in Oklahoma as a non-profit organization.

When African-Americans on the ski slopes were a rarity and black ski clubs were an exception 13 black ski clubs moved forward with a gathering called "A Happening".  This historic gathering took place in Aspen, Colorado in 1973 and was attended by over 350 skiers.

The primary purpose of the organization was birthed in 1974, to place a black skier on the U.S. Ski Team.  The  National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS)  was chartered in 1974 by the founding ski clubs and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1975.

The Oklahoma Trailblazers is only 1 of 84 clubs represented in 40 other cities that support the NBS with a reach of 20,000 adults and youth.

The NBS is recognized by the ski industry as
one of the largest ski organizations and its Summit as the largest gathering of skiers, more than any other ski convention in the United States.
